RIP, Baby

Today, I lost one of my best friends in the world.

I've never been very good at drawing dogs, but Whiskey has been our baby girl for thirteen years. Or almost thirteen, it would have been her birthday on the seventh of next month.

Every time I went home, no matter how long I'd been away, Whiskey was always so excited to see me. She'd run up, tail wagging, and sit at my feet for love and hugs. When watching movies, she'd join me in the living room. When mopin' about, lonely, she'd follow me and give me all the love she had to give. When I sat in a chair, she'd try to sit in my lap.

I remember the first days we brought her home as a tiny puppy, and I remember roughhousing with her in the yard. I remember tag, I remember fetch, I remember tug-of-war and I remember holes in my hot pink pants. I remember the time I scared her and she accidentally bit my arm- and I still carry the scar. I remember the way she tilted her head and wagged her tail-- and I'm so heartbroken I couldn't be by her side to say goodbye.

My mother took Whiskey to the vet this morning. I was desperately hoping Whiskey could hold out till the end of April, but I'm afraid she couldn't make it.

Whiskey, I still love you with all my heart. Forever and ever you'll be a puppy in my eyes, and forever and ever you'll be my baby girl.

I love you mom, Jes, dad, Mitch- I wish I could be home with everyone right now.

Good bye, Whiskey. You were an amazing, amazing, loyal friend, and I love you so much.

Annie

  2. My deepest condolences. But 13 years? What is that... 91 in dog years? Hat's off to a long life and [from what I read] one that was totally worth every moment.

  3. I loved her and really, really miss her. I don't have her as my shadow any more.
